Serious Crash - Northland

Police and emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 1 at Hukerenui, north of Hikurangi.

The head-on crash between two cars was reported at 12.55p.m.

One person from each vehicle remain trapped; one is reported to be in critical condition, the other serious.

Diversions are in place using Hukerenui Road at the northern end and Jordan Valley Road at Hikurangi to the south.

Serious crash investigators will be attending the scene and motorists can expect delays for some time.

No further information is available.

A further release will be made once an estimate can be given as to how long the scene will take to process and clear.
