Police urge caution on with severe weather warnings

Southland Police are urging road users to take care over the coming days with a severe weather warning in place for the Southland area.

With the Burt Munro Challenge beginning today, there will be an increase in motorists and motorcycles on the road.

Road users need to be aware of the potential for heavy rain and 160km/h gusts that will mostly affect those on motorcycles and those in high sided vehicles, especially in exposed areas on the roadways.

For more detailed information on the weather conditions, Police urge road users to check weather sites like MetService before heading out on the road.

Road users also need to drive to the conditions and reduce their speed where necessary to remain safe, especially on wet roads.
