Cheaper bus fares start this weekend

Cheaper bus fares start this weekend – GO Wellington and Newlands Coach Services

Bus fares are cheaper every weekend from this Saturday 28 November to Sunday 20 December on GO Wellington or Newlands Coach Services buses with $1 fares for one zone of travel, and a $2 adult fare or $1.50 child fare for two or three zones.

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is pleased that Newlands Coach Services has joined in the Christmas spirit. “People from Johnsonville, Newlands, Tawa and other northern suburbs as well as other parts of Wellington city can enjoy a cheaper and longer visit to our downtown shops, events and waterfront.

“Make a real day of it and enjoy some food, drink and free museums and galleries.”

Chris Laidlaw, Chair of Greater Wellington Regional Council, is delighted that Newlands bus users will also get cheaper fares. “The more people who are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take the bus instead, the better.”

Councillor Andy Foster, Chair of the Transport and Urban Development Committee is keen to see more people using this service and is interested in the level of take-up.

“There are a lot of wonderful things happening in Wellington over the month leading into Christmas, we want this trial to bring more people into their city.”

Cheaper weekend fares will be available on the following Newlands bus routes:
• 52 Newlands/Paparangi
• 53 Johnsonville West
