Refreshed structure for PCC

Refreshed structure for PCC

Following the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Porirua City Council has refreshed its leadership and organisational structure with a number of positions being advertised this weekend.

Wendy Walker, who started as Chief Executive in September, said 19 roles were disestablished and 20 new roles created.
Ms Walker says there were several drivers for reviewing and refreshing the organisation.

“Throughout the process I’ve been guided by the strategic priorities set by the Mayor and Councillors - in particular the focus on children and young people. Some initial work has been done on how we can operationalise this priority and the new structure will better help deliver on the Council’s aspirations in this area.”

Ms Walker says rates affordability and the high-change external environment in the Wellington region also induced change.

“Porirua’s rates have been an ongoing challenge. There is a need to ensure the organisation is lean and agile and operating at optimum efficiency so we can reduce costs while continuing investment in the city’s future.

“The debate on the form and function of local government in the region means Porirua also needs a team capable of adapting to a changing environment. The new structure will be more cohesive, flexible and agile.”

Ms Walker has kept staff informed throughout the process.

“I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of the feedback that I received from staff during consultation. Their well thought-through ideas have been reflected in the final structure.”
