Palmerston north Rescue Helicopter Weekly Roundup 15 - 28 Nov


The Palmerston North based Rescue Helicopter flew 10 missions during the period as follows;

Sun 15 An afternoon mission for a woman in her 30’s involved in an MVA near Waiouru. Due to weather the helicopter met the ambulance in Ohingaiti and she was airlifted to Palmerston north hospital.

Thu 19 An evening mission to the Manawatu Gorge walking track after a man in his 40’s had broken his ankle. Due to the location a paramedic was hoisted to the patient to stabilise him before hoisting them both into the helicopter. He was then airlifted to Palmerston North hospital in a stable condition.

Sat 21 An early evening mission for a teenage girl with burns from a fire in Taihape. Due to bad weather the helicopter met the ambulance in Ohingaiti and she was then airlifted to Palmerston North hospital. Immediately after the helicopter was sent to Tangimoana for a man in his 60’s with a medical emergency. He was airlifted to Palmerston North.

Mon 23 An evening mission to Raetihi for a man in his 60’s with a medical emergency. Was airlifted to Whanganui hospital.

Tue 24 An evening mission to the Tararua Ranges near Linton for an injured mountain biker. The man in his 30’s suffered chest injuries and due to his location was unable to be transported by road. Paramedics were already on the scene and stabilised and prepared the injured man for transport. He was loaded into the helicopter and airlifted to Palmerston North hospital.

Wed 25 An afternoon mission to Raetihi for a man in his 70’s with a medical emergency. He was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital. Later that evening the helicopter was tasked with extracting an injured tramper in the Ruahine Ranges near Rangiwahia. The teenage male suffered a knee injury and due to his location he was required to be hoisted from the bush. He was then airlifted to Palmerston North hospital.

Thu 26 An afternoon mission to Raetihi for a woman in her 70’s with a medical emergency. She was airlifted to Whanganui hospital.

Fri 27 An afternoon mission to Dannevirke for a man in his 80’s with a medical emergency. He was airlifted to Palmerston North hospital.
