Discover four months of Summer City events in Our Wellington
The much awaited summer edition of Wellington City Council’s seasonal magazine will be arriving in mailboxes, libraries, recreation and community centres and the i-SITE on Wakefield Street this week. In it you’ll find four months of Summer City events so you can start planning your summer. There are over 200 events to choose from and most of them are free!
Highlights during Summer City include Meridian Gardens Magic where local legends and rising stars rock out on the Soundshell stage at Wellington Botanic Garden, illuminated by stars and lighting installations.
Kids and families can join
Gerry Paul and the Royal New Zealand Airforce Band on a
magical musical flight in the Botanic Garden for Meridian
Kids Magic – Up, Up and Away.
The Wellington Pasifika
Festival offers an array of sights, sounds and flavours from
the wider Pacific. There’s the much anticipated chop suey
competition, as well as many other delicious Pacific dishes.
The day will featured headline act Che Fu, and be led by MCs
The Laughing Samoans. Get a taste of the Pacific right here
in Wellington.
Te Rā o Waitangi celebrates our national holiday. Head to Waitangi Park with friends and whānau on Waitangi Day for kai and kapa haka, as well as music from Ardijah, Beau Monga, Sianne and Grove Roots.
Get out and discover Hidden Gardens and connect with nature, get active with Push Play, experience our diverse cultural life with Chinese New Year, CubaDupa and our many public artworks and galleries across the region.
“There is something for everyone, whether it’s lively music, a peaceful stroll in the bush, celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah, New Year’s Eve, or enjoying Meridian Gardens Magic –– Wellington offers unlimited opportunities,” says Mayor Wade-Brown, who urges members of the community to take someone along who is too shy to ask and will benefit from a chance to share summer activities.
Enjoy the events capital of New Zealand and take part in our festivals – Island Bay, Newtown, Aro Valley and – the big one – the 2016 New Zealand Festival.
Bring your team to Wellington Sevens and join in the action with Seven Days of 7’s Festival in Civic Square and on the Wellington waterfront. Get behind the BLACKCAPS at the iconic Basin Reserve and support the Nix at the Westpac Stadium.
Community, Sport and Recreation chair Paul Eagle says: “There’s no excuse not to leave the house this Summer City, our parks, recreation centres and swimming pools across Wellington are jam packed with activities and not just for humans.”
