Santa not the only one worth seeing at the Gore Santa Parade

"Santa’s not the only one worth seeing at the Gore Santa Parade"

Southland Police are pleased to announce they are bringing the Police branded tractor to the South next week in its first appearance over the coming months.

“The tractor works as an icebreaker for Police to begin discussions on rural crime and to encourage rural communities to work together with Police to Shut the Gate on Rural Crime,” says Senior Sergeant Cynthia Fairley, Southland Area Youth and Community Supervisor.

“For us, it's a matter of people taking steps to prevent themselves from being victims of crime and to looking after themselves, their neighbours and their communities by promoting safe security practices, especially in rural areas.”

“Members of the rural community are also encouraged to visit the police website at http://www.police.govt.nz/rural for key resources and information to help keep them and their properties safe.”

Senior Sergeant Fairley is also thrilled to announce the tractor will make its first Southland appearance alongside the jolly man himself at the Gore Santa Parade on Sunday, 13 December, at 12pm on the Main Street of Gore.

The tractor will be driven in the Grand Parade on Sunday and will be parked up for a static display at the Ardwick Street reserve (Ordsal Street/Ardwick Street) for an hour after the parades conclusion for a closer inspection by the public.

This will provide locals with a photo opportunity for the little kids as well as the big kids who are little kids at heart.

During this, Police will be providing home and farm security advice for members of the public and providing further information on where they can go for more information.

The tractor will make its next appearance at the Police site at the Southern Field Days at Waimumu 10-12 February 2016.

The tractor is a New Holland T5 series tractor which has been loaned to the Police by CB Norwood to support our rural crime prevention initiative.

The tractor has been branded with traditional police livery and is also installed with lights and siren.

It has toured different rural events in the country and has finally made it to the deep south.
