Drugs and firearms seized following Hauraki searches

Reflecting on the seizure of firearms, drugs and what appears to be a dismantled meth lab during the search of two Hauraki properties, Eastern Waikato Police say the community can feel confident officers are successfully disrupting the area’s drug trade.

Detective Sergeant Martyn Hughes of the Coromandel-Hauraki CIB said two properties were searched by Police this morning with the assistance of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad.

“The first property searched was in the settlement of Turua where two firearms and a quantity of cannabis were recovered and a man aged in his forties is currently assisting us with our inquiries.

“The second property we searched was an industrial site in Paeroa where a pistol and what appears to be a disassembled clandestine methamphetamine laboratory were recovered.

An Auckland based Clan Lab team is currently conducting a forensic analysis of the scene and a 37-year-old woman is assisting us with our inquiries into this property.”

Mr Hughes said Police were looking into the likelihood of the pair facing firearms and drug related charges.

“Given the success of last month’s methamphetamine related warrants in Te Aroha and today’s activities I believe the benefits of the community working with the Police to reduce the harms from drugs is becoming readily apparent.

“If you have information on illegal drug activity going on in your area or even just concerns contact your local Police, your call will be treated in confidence.

Alternatively, you can call the independent Crimestoppers Crimeline on 0800 555111 and leave your information anonymously.”
