Christmas Sale to support Shed

Christmas Sale to support Shed

Kapiti Coast , Thursday 10 December 2015 - Kapiti not for profit organisation, The Shed Project will be spreading Christmas cheer with a Garage sale and light display this weekend, with all money raised going to support its 2016 programme.

Winner of the 2015 Kapiti Wellington Airport Authority Award and the 2015 Wellington Rising Star, The Shed Project, aims to change pre-existing ideas and behaviours and integrate people with disabilities into the community.

The Shed Project offers a social venue, 1:1 skill training such as woodwork and crafts, as well as employment opportunities within its second hand shop and placements out in the wider community.

Founder Denis Wood says this Christmas Sale will help support The Shed and all the activity it provides to its service members, and will aim to increase its choices of programmes in 2016.

“We now have 60 service users that actively use our facilities and participate in The Shed Project’s activities, which says to me that there was something missing for these guys out currently within our community. We want to expand on what we are doing to create opportunities for these guys that give them a sense of purpose in their lives and also change pre-existing ideas that are a barrier to integrating in the community. Next year we will be making a series of changes to The Shed Project that aims to improve our service and facilities to our service-users.”

The Christmas Sale will have a variety of clothing, second hand items, a sausage sizzle, and a raffle with loads of prizes for Kapiti residents –including an appearance from Santa himself.

The sale is on this Weekend Sat & Sun 12th13th, 9am to 3pm at 20 Tongariro Street, with the light display on Saturday evening, all are welcome.

ENDS.
