More shelter for Puhinui Station passengers

More shelter for Puhinui Station passengers

Auckland Transport has installed a 30-metre canopy at Puhinui Station to give passengers with more shelter from the elements. The station previously had a shelter, which was half the size of the new one.

Puhinui Station sees an average of 550 passenger boardings each weekday, an increase of 32% on last year.

Auckland Transport project director Nick Seymour says that Puhinui Station is a key connector station. “A growing number of passengers use Puhinui to connect between the southern and eastern line services to get to Manukau. This new and extended shelter will improve the quality of their commute and waiting time at the station.

“The number of passengers using Puhinui Station has been steadily increasing. The opening of the new Manukau Institute of Technology campus in 2014 saw the number of students using Puhinui increase significantly. It was essential to provide the new shelter for the comfort of all our passengers.”

Other improvements to the station include:

• Resealing of the platform to remove cracks to provide a smooth and consistent platform surface

• Installation of electronic passenger information displays, which will provide real-time information

• CCTV monitoring for passenger safety

• Improved public announcement speakers within the canopy to update passengers of arriving trains

Upcoming projects to improve other stations include major redevelopment of Otahuhu Station to a fully-integrated bus and train interchange to allow for the roll-out of the new public transport network. https://at.govt.nz/projects-roadworks/auckland-rail-upgrade/station-improvements/
