Libraries bestow honour

Dunedin (Wednesday, 16 December 2015) – Making New Zealand Music Month at the Dunedin Public Libraries a triumph over the past decade has earned Scott Muir special recognition.

Mr Muir, of Dunedin, today received the Dunedin Public Libraries Citation for 2015. The citation recognises the valuable contribution of writers, artists, researchers, sponsors and others to the libraries. It is awarded to a local resident who has made a long and outstanding contribution to the libraries’ collections, services or programmes.

Group Manager Arts and Culture Bernie Hawke says, “Mr Muir’s contribution has kept the May music month popular and positive, bringing new audiences into the City Library, while working in partnership with our talented creative community.”

Mr Muir’s passion to see Dunedin’s arts and cultural scene thrive is obvious. He is a keen supporter of Dunedin’s UNESCO City of Literature status and a key member of the Vogel Street Party. Mr Muir is also a past board member of the Dunedin Fringe Festival, and is part of the Transforming Dunedin team, who were involved in developing Ara Toi Otepoti - Our Creative Future, Dunedin’s Arts and Culture Strategy.

The citation was formally awarded today during the libraries’ annual Christmas morning tea to thank volunteers and others who have helped the libraries during the year.
