Civil Defence Group Plan aims to build a resilient Auckland

The draft Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) Group Plan 2016 – 2021 was approved today by the CDEM Group committee for public consultation next year. The plan can be viewed here.

The CDEM Group Plan is a strategic document which outlines how the group will work with communities to build resilience over the next five years, and outlines key targets that will help to achieve this vision.

This draft plan represents a significant change in the way that CDEM activities are conducted in Auckland, with an overarching vision to work together to build a resilient Auckland.

“Auckland is subject to a variety of disasters, ranging from infrequent events such as earthquakes and tsunamis, to regular events such as flooding, electricity outrage and fire,” says Councillor Sharon Stewart, Civil Defence and Emergency Management committee chair.

“Together it is our job to build and safe and resilient Auckland but we can’t do this alone. It’s important that everyone takes responsibility – from families and individuals, right through to businesses, private organisation and Government.”

Aucklanders are encouraged to give feedback on the draft plan by visiting shapeauckland.co.nz between 18 January and 18 April, 2016.
