Upper Hutt City Library’s Summer Reading Challenge

Keep your child reading and entertained this summer.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 17 DEC 2015—The Upper Hutt City Library has 6 weeks of reading adventures and challenges for children of all ages over the summer break.

This year’s theme is Around the World. Children will receive a passport with reading challenges and puzzles for each of the 7 continents. They will be assigned a ‘Travel Agent’ to help them on their journey. Once all the assignments in their passport have been completed and their travel visa approved, they will gain entry into the Around the World Finale Event. There will be entertainment and a prize draw.

Younger siblings can also join in the fun and complete the Around the World challenge. Their personal Travel Agent will cater just for them.

This year the Library is also offering a summer reading reward programme for our amazing teen readers. A ‘reading compass’ has been created. Teens read one book in each of the three categories on the compass and gain an entry into the prize draw. The more they read the more chances they get to win prizes. Plus if any of the titles read are New Zealand books they will get a special reading themed gift pack.

The Upper Hutt City Library offers the Summer Reading Challenge to help maintain or even increase children’s reading level over the summer holidays. Research shows that children who do not read over the holidays often experience a reading setback and it can be a struggle to catch up.
