Napier's Seaside Pier Scared of the Water
18 DECEMBER 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
The Taxpayers’ Union is lending its support to ratepayers of Napier, annoyed with the Napier City Council, wasting $2.6 million on a pier that doesn’t quite reach the water on Napier’s foreshore.
“Talk about useless," says Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams. "Who was silly enough to think that spending millions on a platform over a beach is a good use of $2.6 million?”
“Only a council, spending other people’s money, could dream that this offered $2.6 million of value. Even if it is visually appealing, comments by ratepayers appear pretty unanimous that it’s a useless structure.”
“The Council claim that $1.2 million of the $2.6 million would have been spent on a storm water pipe underneath anyway. Even if a 40 metre section of pipe costs that much, which seems highly unlikely, it is no excuse.”
