Chris Upton reappointed Chief Executive of Upper Hutt City Council

Incumbent Chief Executive, Chris Upton has his appointment at Upper Hutt City Council extended for another three years.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 22 DEC 2015—Upper Hutt City Council announced today the reappointment of Chris Upton to the role of Chief Executive, extending his term in this position by another three years. Under the Local Government Act, chief executive officers’ positions must be publicly offered every five years.

There was much interest in the role and Mayor Wayne Guppy and Councillors participated in a robust process, aided by recruitment consultants Jackson Stone.

“We were impressed by the calibre of the applicants and the strong interest for the role, demonstrating the attractiveness of this professional proposition,” says Mayor Guppy. “We are very confident that the reappointment of Chris Upton to the role is the right decision for Council and the Upper Hutt community.

“Under his leadership, Council has made great strides to advance our city’s prospects and this is something my fellow Councillors and I are very keen to see continue.”

The reappointment of Mr Upton marks his tenth year at Council, where he started as a manager before moving through the ranks. He has been Chief Executive for five of those years.
