Free family boating fun day

Free family boating fun day

Jet ski rides and kids’ rides on the Coastguard boat are all part of the Environment Canterbury Family Fun Safe Boating Day which will be held on January 3, 2016.

The free event will take place at the eastern end of Lake Ruataniwha (off the main road) at 11am.

Environment Canterbury Coasts and Waterways Safety Navigational Safety Officer, Gary Manch, says the aim of the event is to promote awareness of safe boating practice while providing a fun day for the community.

Some activities include jet ski rides provided by Read Marine, kids’ rides on the Coastguard boat, a Twizel Auto and Marine Centre water sports toys display and a free sausage sizzle.

“We will have handouts on boat safety and Coastguard will provide boaties with advice on all things boating,” Gary Manch says.

“The day brings our boating community together for a day where people can enjoy the water, seek advice and speak to experts. We want people to have a great day and leave with more knowledge about safe boating practice.”
