Sky Tower show to light up Auckland’s New Year celebrations

Sky Tower show to light up Auckland’s New Year celebrations

The Sky Tower’s highly anticipated New Year’s Eve midnight display will soon light up Auckland’s CBD and lead the world in welcoming the new year.

This year SKYCITY has partnered with two new suppliers to develop a four hour show including a laser animation show beamed onto the Sky Tower culminating in a five minute pyrotechnic display at the special midnight moment.

Tonight and tomorrow night, testing will take place for the laser animation show, using images that will not be used in the New Year’s Eve show.

The laser animation show will be displayed on the east and north-west sides of the Sky Tower and will be seen from many vantage points around the city from sunset.

The pyrotechnic display will be choreographed and designed to music and the Kiwi flavoured sound track is being played by More FM (91.8FM) and will be synchronized with the display.

The Sky Tower lighting will reflect the dynamic nature of the show, with multi-coloured chasing swirls around the top of the Tower and pulsing colours.

SKYCITY has organised and funded Auckland’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display for almost two decades, and as the first major celebration of the New Year it’s highly anticipated both locally and globally.

The Sky Tower is the southern hemisphere’s tallest man-made structure, and is a recognizable part of Auckland’s cityscape.

SKYCITY often lights the Tower for charities or community initiatives that we support financially, or to mark national holidays, milestones or other celebrations.
