Bringing back the buskers

This month, an army of world-class local and international street performers will descend on Nelson for the Nelson Buskers Festival.

Returning to Nelson from 28 - 31 January 2016, the Festival will bring the city alive with action-packed, mind-blowing shows.

Acts include performers from as far afield as Japan and Canada, doing everything from ninja juggling and acrobatics to unicycling.

There are a few different ways to experience these street performers while they're here.

Buskers on Trafalgar brings jaw-dropping street performers into the city during the day on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 January from 11am - 2.30pm andSaturday 30 January from 10.30am - 2pm.

Buskers on the Church Steps provides a family night out where you can bring your cushions, picnic and low chairs and be thoroughly entertained on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January at 6pm.

Buskers in the Boathouse - For the More Adventurous! is an R18 cabaret show at The Boathouse guaranteed to surprise the crowds on Thursday 28 January(8pm) and Friday 29 January (8.30pm). Tickets for this event are $30 pre-sale and $38 door sale, plus TicketDirect service fees.

Nelson Buskers Festival line-up:

Ace K from Japan

Like a ninja, Eisuke's moves are swift and precise. His jaw-dropping routine will amaze crowds as he performs a unique set of acrobatics and juggling and some of the most insane balloon manipulation ever. This Japanese sensation is a must-see!

Kiki Bittovabitsch from Australia

Kiki is a contortionist, an acrobat and a real life princess. After losing her country of Kazador (she literally cannot find it!), she has travelled the world as the self appointed Kazadorian Kultural attaché. Kiki delights in sharing colourful renditions of her countries history, myths and legends and engages in outrageous interactive fun to share these tales with her audience.

Darwin Pimentel from Venezuela

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Darwin Pimentel has been performing and creating stage and street acts in over of 20 countries for the last 10 years, combining contact-juggling with spectacular dance moves and circus.

Mullet Man from New Zealand

Mullet Man has been performing juggling and unicycle comedy shows, fire shows, and MCing, in and around NZ, Australia, Asia, the United Kingdom and the Arab Emirates since 1998, at hundreds of festivals, functions, corporate gigs, cruise ship lines and variety cabaret stages. Begs the question - what came first, the Mullet or the Man?

Madame Guillotine from Canada

She travels the globe charming the hearts and wallets from audiences with her sharp wit, graceful movement and absurd comedy. Just don't expect her to speak French: she was born in Austria. (Plus, she's a mime).
