Submissions open on Woodburner plan change

Submissions open on Woodburner plan change

15 January 2016

Submissions are now open for Nelson residents to have their say on Nelson City Council’s proposed Woodburner Plan Change (Plan Change A3).

The plan change proposes to allow additional Ultra Low Emission Burners (ULEBs) on the basis there will be improvements to woodburner use, generating less smoke.

A limited number of ULEBs are proposed to be allowed in Airshed B2 (including Stoke, Wakatu and Enner Glynn) and Airshed C (including Port Hills, City Centre, The Brook, The Wood and Atawhai).

If there are further improvements to air quality over the next few years, the plan change proposes that burners could also become a permitted activity in Airshed A (including Bishopdale, Victory, Toi Toi, between the colleges, and Washington Valley) and Airshed B1 (Tahunanui and Tahunanui Hills south of The Cliffs).

More information on the plan change is available on Council’s website, nelson.govt.nz [search phrase = woodburner plan change]. Letters will be sent to all Nelson households advising notification of the plan change.

The proposed plan change document, the accompanying reports and submission form are available at the Customer Service Centre, Nelson libraries and on the council website.
