Foxton, Foxton Beach Level 1 water restrictions reinstated

Media Release: Friday 15 January 2016

Level 1 water restrictions reinstated for Council water supplies in Foxton and Foxton Beach

Level 1 water restrictions are back in place from today until further notice for Council water supplies in Foxton and Foxton Beach.

The restrictions had been temporarily increased to Level 2 from December 30 until today due to high water demand.

District water supplies come under pressure during summer and Council imposes water restrictions to ensure the demand does not exceed the volumes available.

Level 1 water restrictions mean that garden sprinklers may only be used during the hours from 5.00 am to 9.00am and 7.00pm to 9.00 pm on alternative days as follows:

• Houses with even street numbers on even dates

• Houses with odd street numbers on odd dates

Hand-held hoses are permitted on your odd/even date at any time. Please note thatsoak hoses are banned at all times while water restrictions are in place.

Water mains flushing will cease for the majority of streets during the water restrictions, however Council will only target areas where and when it receives water quality complaints.

Water demand will be monitored and if required further water restrictions will be put in place, or lifted.

Council appreciates the positive cooperation by residents and visitors to the water restriction requirements.

All Horowhenua residents are urged to conserve water as the demand for water increases over summer.

Residents are urged to be mindful when watering plants and gardens, and to practice deep watering once or twice per week, rather than shallow watering more frequently.

Water saving tips:

• Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving

• Use a bucket of water and a soft sponge or mop for outdoor cleaning jobs

• Sweep up garden waste, rather than hosing it away

• Do only full loads in the washing machine and dishwasher

• Take shorter showers

• Use a bowl or plug in the sink when washing vegetables or hand-washing dishes.

Council staff regularly monitor water use and undertake inspections throughout summer. Updates are available at www.horowhenua.govt.nz.
