Stolen vehicle recovered in Christchurch

Canterbury Police have arrested two people following a short pursuit of a stolen red Subaru Impreza station wagon in the Cashmere area of Christchurch at about 11:30 am this morning (20 January 2016).

Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves says Police stopped the vehicle using road spikes at the intersection of Colombo Street and Tennyson Street. “The driver and passenger were arrested after a short foot-chase. A number of items of interest were seized following a search of the vehicle including an imitation firearm.”

A 28 year old man Christchurch man is charged with unlawfully being in a motor vehicle and a 22 year old man Christchurch man has been charged with reckless driving and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

They are both due to appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow (21 January 2016).

Police investigations are ongoing and further charges may be laid.

Canterbury Police would like to thank the members of the public for their patience while the stolen vehicle was being stopped.

A further update will be provided as appropriate to the investigation.
