More parking takes pressure off Thames’ main street
More parking takes pressure off Thames’ main
street
With most of the painted markings completed yesterday, we’ve allowed people to begin using the new Mackay Street car park opposite our District office in Thames.
There are still minor works to finish: the pedestrian connection from the car park to the Council side of the road, the last on-street garden and access from the new disabled car parks to the footpath, as well as painting of directional arrows and entrance and exit signs. However, these minor works will not stop the car park from being used.
It is a public car park with all day parking, and no time restrictions.
This will help to reduce excessive traffic movements and parking congestion in the main street - Pollen St.
We're encouraging business owners in Pollen Street to get their staff to use the all-day car parks at Danby Field in Queen St and this new car park in Mackay St and not to take up valuable customer parking opportunities in Pollen St.
We're also planning to offer to Thames businesses the option to purchase reserved parking for their exclusive use within business hours. A limited number of parks in the Mackay St car park will be made available for this in the near future.
The car park was developed by the Thames Community Board.
