Military style ammunition found - Christchurch

Police were called to a Spreydon address in Christchurch on Sunday 24 January 2016 at about 1030 am.

Occupants had located what the believed to be a military style ammunition round and were unsure of its safety.

Police responded and evacuated residents in the close vicinity to allow for any risk to be mitigated as a safety precaution. New Zealand Defence Force personnel were called to make the item safe.

Upon inspection it was assessed as an inert training round and posed no risk. Police urge anybody who discovers any object in a similar situation they are unsure about to treat it as potentially dangerous and live ammunition. They should not touch or move it and clear the area and notify Police immediately.
