Chance to see referendum flag at Council

The proposed black and blue silver fern flag will be flown along with the New Zealand flag outside Council’s Fitzherbert Street building from today (Tuesday 2 February).

Council received the two flags after Mayor Meng Foon accepted an offer from the Flag Consideration Panel to display both flags in the run-up to the second referendum.

Mayor Meng Foon says the flags are displayed so that people know what they are voting for.

“It gives the public time to view and compare the flags before the referendum starts,” says Mayor Foon.

The flag can stay up during the referendum but must be taken down by March 24.
“This is a very important vote and I would encourage all voters to take part,” says Mayor Foon.

Members of the public can also approach the Flag Consideration Panel to borrow two flags.
