Disappointment in number of drink-drivers

Disappointment in the number of motorists apprehended driving whilst Intoxicated

Inspector Mike Wright, Wellington District Road Policing Manager, reminds motorists that you could be stopped "Any Time, Any Place".

"This morning, at about 10am, Police stopped a motorist as a result of a complaint from a member of the public in Porirua who was concerned about the manner in which the vehicle was being driven.

"The female driver blew 725mgms.

"On Thursday evening in Mirimar, the Traffic Alcohol Group stopped a number of motorists, five of whom are now facing Excess Breath Alcohol charges

"On Wednesday night, between 9pm and 11:30pm, at a Roadside Checkpoint in Raumati Beach, ten motorists had cause to visit the Traffic Alcohol Group Booze Bus.

Five of those motorists are now facing Excess Breath Alcohol charges.

"On Sunday afternoon, 31st January , the Traffic Alcohol Group stopped an 74 year old motorist in Lyall Bay who subsequently blew 685mgms.

"On Friday night 29th January, the Traffic Alcohol Group apprehended eight motorists in Masterton and various South Wairarapa locations drink driving.

One of those was a lady who blew 935mgms and was accompanied by two children.

"To the motoring public this weekend , the Wellington District Road Policing Team asks you not to drink and drive - get a sober driver.

Drive to the posted speed limit and have a great weekend," said Inspector Wright.
