Navy Supporting Wellington City Mission with ‘Fish & Ships’

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is on a mission to help raise funds for the Wellington City Mission.

Friday, 12 February the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) ship HMNZS CANTERBURY will be the venue for a fish and chip lunch for 400 paying guests, with the proceeds going to help support the Wellington City Mission and others in the Greater Wellington region who are most in need.

The lunch will largely be catered by Ruth Pretty Catering, and the event will feature entertainment from the RNZN Band. Students from Samuel Marsden Collegiate and Rathkeale College will be there to help. Ship tours and an charity auction are also on the programme.

Many contributors have kindly donated products and time to support Wellingtonians who need help. The Wellington City Mission has been providing help for 112 years and like the Wellington City Mission, the NZDF prides itself on providing assistance to New Zealanders in times of disaster or emergency, protecting our borders and environment and joining forces with our allies to defend and protect.

Media are invited to board HMNZS CANTERBURY on Thursday morning (11 February) by small boat (RHIB) for her entry into Wellington Harbour and berthing at Queens Wharf.
