UK ‘Edible’ Star to Speak in Christchurch

UK ‘Edible’ Star to Speak in Christchurch for Earthquake’s Fifth Anniversary

Edible Canterbury is excited to be co-hosting an international superstar of the local food movement: Pam Warhurst, CBE, of UK’s Incredible Edible Network. She will be speaking in Christchurch at CPIT Aoraki for the fifth anniversary of the Canterbury Earthquakes, on a new edible vision for the Garden City.

“We’re delighted to have Pam in town on this occasion,” said Dr Matt Morris, who is organising the Christchurch leg of her tour. “There’s a lot of interest locally in rethinking our food system. People increasingly want to get away from industrialised, globalised, harmful and unhealthy food producing practices and to reconnect food with their local communities. We reckon what Pam Warhurst has achieved in the UK is game-changing stuff. As we reflect on five years of post-earthquake life in Christchurch, and think about the future for our city, and the ways in which it can be rebuilt as a resilient, sustainable city, the message that Pam brings is timely indeed.”

Pam Warhurst arrives in Christchurch on Friday 19th February for a busy four day programme where she will meet with Christchurch City Councillors and senior Council staff, participate in a local food planning workshop in New Brighton, speak at a schools gardening hui to be held at West Spreydon School and culminating in a public talk at CPIT Aoraki.

Her CPIT Aoraki talk, “Eating the Garden City”, is expected to attract a large crowd. It is being held on Monday 22 February, from 6.30-8.30pm at DL lecture theatre, Madras St campus.
