Canterbury Police are investigating an
incident earlier tonight resulting in the sudden death of
one person on the river bank near this location.
The death
is suspicious and a homicide investigation has been
launched. Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney says the Police
are speaking to a person of interest and want to ensure the
public that there is no danger to any other members of the
community as a result of this matter. Police will have an
area of riverbank cordoned while a scene examination is
undertaken.
Ferry Road between Richardson Terrace and
Hargood Street will remain closed to all traffic for several
hours yet.
The roadway will be opened again before
0600hrs.
