Citylink buses caught up in northern gateway upgrade

Citylink buses caught up in northern gateway upgrade

16 February 2016

Passengers and school children should expect delays on New Plymouth’s Citylink buses, held up by the upgrade to the northern gateway.

Taranaki Regional Council Transport Services Manager Chris Clarke says students on school buses are sometimes arriving up to 15 minutes late to school due to the roadworks holding up traffic in the morning.

The Council’s bus operator, Tranzit, has been in touch with schools regarding the issue and schools agreed that service departure times will remain as they are, Mr Clarke says.

“Schools understand this is a short-term problem that we can’t change. Changing the school buses to earlier departure times would likely cause more trouble, with a risk that some children would not catch the bus, missing school entirely.

“Thankfully, some motorists are really considerate of our schools buses. We’d like to thank those who let the buses merge into the traffic flow, it really helps our drivers.”

Citylink commuter buses are also experiencing delays, like all other traffic, along the northern gateway, Mr Clarke says.

Citylink’s Route 9 to Fitzroy, The Valley, and Glenn Avon are running behind schedule each day as buses are caught up regularly in the eastern area.

“We just ask for everyone’s patience at this time until the roadworks end,” he says.
