New look, same ticket

New look, same ticket

The face of Wellington’s train tickets is changing in preparation for a move to a new operator of the region’s rail services.

Wayne Hastie, Greater Wellington Regional Council’s General Manager, Public Transport, says new Metlink-branded tickets will be rolled out over the next few weeks. “All TranzMetro tickets will still be honoured.”

“Customers may have noticed that some of the existing TranzMetro tickets have an expiry date in the top right hand corner. That was an error - all tickets printed with an expiry date will be honoured after that date and no customers will lose entitlement to any trips they have already paid for.”

Negotiations between the Regional Council and the preferred tenderer, Transdev Australasia, are expected to be completed within the next two weeks and the new contract is expected to commence later this year.

The rail contract will be the first new, performance-based, partnering contract for public transport in the Wellington region. The new contracts provide more incentives for operators to provide efficient, quality services that will encourage more people to use public transport.

The new-look ticketing also marks the beginning of a move to Metlink as the over-arching public transport brand for the Wellington region. “We want to make it easier for people to use public transport in the region by having one single look, brand and source of information – Metlink.”
