Generation Zero wants Aucklanders to complain about their buses

Generation Zero has put up hundreds of posters at Auckland bus stops asking commuters if their buses suck. The move is part of a campaign to encourage users to log their experience using the groups Better Buses form.

“Aucklanders love complaining about the buses, and often with good reason” says spokesperson Leroy Beckett “ we want to give people an outlet for that frustration”

The form, found at genzero.org.nz/bus, asks users to log their bus route and stop, the time of day and what the problem was. Generation Zero will use this data to determine the worst buses in the city, and compel Auckland Transport to take urgent action.

“The submissions we have got so far are coming from people frustrated the buses they try to take are full, and the ones they are able to board get stuck in traffic. The solution to these problems is simple, more buses on the busiest routes, more dedicated bus lanes”

March has seen the bus system unable to cope under the pressure of students return to university. Auckland Transport has promised to added a limited number of extra buses on some routes, but this has yet to have an effect on passengers experiences.

“Auckland Transport have put an extra bus an hour on select routes for the busiest time of the year. We expect that’s not going to be enough.” Beckett

Posters have been put up in the busiest stops in the city- where bus users are often left waiting in vain as buses drive past already full.

“We have made great strides over the past few years, increasing the public transport budget, getting the City Rail Link from fantasy to reality, and building infrastructure for people on bikes. But watching multiple buses go past when you’re just trying to get to work can make it seem like nothing has changed”

Hundreds of submissions have been made in the first week of the campaign.
