Trentham Memorial Park to host celebrity cricket match

Upper Hutt’s Trentham Memorial Park to host golden anniversary celebrity cricket match

The first event of Upper Hutt’s 50th Anniversary celebrations hits off with a celebrity T20 cricket match.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 10 MAR 2016—It’s been 50 years since Upper Hutt was pronounced a city by Governor General, Sir Bernard Fergusson. Upper Hutt City Council’s Activation team and the Upper Hutt United Cricket Club are initiating celebrations with a celebrity T20 cricket match.

The game, at Barton Oval in Trentham Memorial Park, will see Mayor Wayne Guppy lead a Mayor’s XI against a MP’s XI captained by local MP Chris Hipkins. Local celebrities from several sporting codes, including the Hurricanes, Firebirds, along with representatives from each of our local colleges have been confirmed to attend on the day. So far, this includes Irene van Dyk, Cory Jane, Jason Woodward, Ollie Newton, Matt Bacon, Matt Taylor, Chris Nevin, and Leighton Morgan.

The day will start with junior cricket from 8.00 am and a curtain raiser T20 battle between the Upper Hutt Rams Rugby team and Upper Hutt United Football at 10.30 am. The main attraction will start at 1.30 pm and refreshments and entertainment will be at the ground all day.

Families are invited to bring a picnic, enjoy the game, and meet their local sporting heroes.
