Central Districts Field Days to entertain and educate

Media Release
11 March 2016

Central Districts Field Days to entertain, educate, and excite punters

There’s one week to go until the annual Central Districts Field Days, the largest regional agricultural event in the country, takes over Manfeild Park in Feilding. The event runs from March 17-19 and will feature more than 560 displays of state-of-the-art agriculture, and will likely attract more than 30,000 visitors from around New Zealand.

Central Districts Field Days offers a comprehensive three-day programme appealing to the rural and lifestyle community. Now in its 23rd year, the unique lower North Island event is a recognised rural celebration and marketing opportunity.

The event caters to rural and lifestyle families with a wide range of products and services from agricultural equipment to clothing and much more, all making Central Districts Field Days the ‘best day off the farm all year’.

The Hurricanes Super Rugby team will help kick off the Central Districts Field Days event on Thursday 17 March, participating in a series of competitions against Palmerston North Boys’ High School, Massey University and Property Brokers. The Hurricanes are playing the Western Force on Friday 18 March at 7:35pm in Palmerston North.

For those heading along to Central Districts Field Days who are interested in a future in agriculture, the NZFarmer site at K33-K34 will have members of Opiki, Massey, Wanganui, Marton and Fitzherbert Young Famers clubs on-site to talk about what the industry is really like, and what agriculture career opportunities are available in New Zealand. Get Ahead, an organisation that provides New Zealanders information on jobs in farming, agriculture, agribusiness and science, will run a scavenger hunt challenge across the three days. Participants will be put to the test, answering a series of 10 agriculture questions while making their way around Manfeild Park to win a series of prizes.

Events Manager Cheryl Riddell says Central Districts Field Days is not only great entertainment, but an educational platform designed to inspire New Zealanders.

“The agriculture industry is big business in New Zealand, and remains the backbone of our economy. It’s encouraging to see hands-on activities such as the Get Ahead challenge encouraging young Kiwis to learn the ins and outs of farming.

Alongside agriculture, the 2016 Central Districts Field Days will also look to capture the hearts and minds of farmers who would consider themselves avid motor enthusiasts.

One of the latest vehicles on the market will be on show at the Manawatu and TRC Toyota site. The SUV range will include Rav4, Highlander, Prado, LandCruiser 200 and the all new Fortuner – a mid-range diesel, 4WD, seven-seater SUV option.

For young motorbike riders, the Yamaha Kids Zone is the place to be. A replica of the Yamaha Kids Zone used at Big Boys Toys 2015 in Auckland will see youngsters riding in a controlled environment under the watchful eye of appointed stewards. Kids can learn to ride, and experience the fun bikes Yamaha has to offer including a PW50 and a TTR50.

Central Districts Field Days will be held at Manfeild Park in Feilding from March 17-19, 2016 and is proudly supported by Massey University, Bayleys, Meal Time and CLAAS Harvest Centre.
