Dame Malvina Major Nurturing New Talent at Rangi Ruru

Dame Malvina Major Nurturing New Talent at Rangi Ruru

2017 Music Scholarship Applications Open This Week

Rangi Ruru musicians were treated to a special masterclass on Wednesday with internationally renowned soprano Dame Malvina Major.

This coincided with the school’s 2017 Music Scholarship applications opening this week.

The senior choir, Resolutions, along with five soloists spent the morning with Dame Malvina where she worked with the girls on aspects including breathing, vocal production, text interpretation, movement and presentation.

“The school has had a long standing relationship with Dame Malvina Major”, says Director of Music, Janet Kingsbury. “We are very fortunate to be able to give our girls the opportunity to learn from someone of her exceptional talent, in this way.”

Janet Kingsbury says Dame Malvina was very generous with her offer to work with the girls.

“They, and those observing, learnt a great deal at the masterclass and responded positively to Dame Malvina’s warmth and affirmation of the good work that they were already doing with their singing,” said Mrs Kingsbury.
