The Palmerston North City
Council Rural Fire Areas will move from a Prohibited to an
Open Fire Season effective from midnight Wednesday 23 March
2016 until further notice.
Substantial rainfall and
lower temperatures have reduced the fire dangers
sufficiently to allow for these changes to take place.
Open Fire Season means that no Fire Permit is required
to light a fire in the open air.
However, Department
of Conservation land and any fire safety margins bordering
Palmerston North City Council’s Rural Fire Area will
remain as a Restricted Fire Season.
Restricted Fire
Season means that a Fire Permit is required to light a fire
in the open air.
Palmerston North City Council
encourages any persons lighting fires to maintain a high
level of care, supervision and responsibility.
For
all fire emergencies please call 111.
Any enquiries
regarding fires in rural areas of Palmerston North should be
made to the Palmerston North City Council on 356 8199.
