Vandalism in park

Vandalism of parks in Hastings is not acceptable, says Hastings District councillor Tania Kerr.

Earlier this month trees were hacked and felled in Eskdale Park, just north of Napier.

“It is a lovely park, perfect for children with the shallow Esk River to one side for paddling, and we don’t need people who don’t appreciate parks going in and ruining them,” said Ms Kerr.

Council is calling on people to report any damage or suspicious behaviour as soon as they see it.

“Our park staff work very hard at keeping our parks beautiful for our residents, and it is very upsetting when attacks like this occur,” said Ms Kerr.
Damage should be reported to Hastings District Council as soon as it is seen, phone 871 5000, and suspicious activity reported to police.
