Eric Rush to speak at Northland Corrections graduation

1 April 2016

Ex-All Black, Eric Rush, to speak at Northland Region Corrections Facility prisoners’ graduation

Eric Rush, former All Black and rugby Sevens legend, will be the guest speaker at a prisoners’ graduation ceremony at Northland Region Corrections Facility (NRCF) on Monday, 4 April 2016.

A total of ten offenders are graduating from the Lowie Foundation’s Education and Sport programme with a NorthTec Certificate in Foundation Studies (level 2).

The 21-week programme comprises an introduction to fitness instruction, combined with literacy and numeracy teaching.

“NRCF really values its partnership with the Lowie Foundation and NorthTec, as the Education and Sport programme can be life changing for the graduates,” says Dave Pattinson, NRCF prison director.

“Literacy and numeracy are essential skills for employment, while the introduction to physical fitness instruction paves the way for graduates to pursue employment opportunities in the fitness industry on their release”

Graham Lowe, renowned New Zealand rugby league coach, who left school at the age of 14, established the Lowie Foundation programme with its educational partner, NorthTec, Whangarei, “to help people grow and develop into whatever they want to be”.

The graduation ceremony takes place from 11am to 2pm at NRCF, and family members of graduates will also attend the event.
