Improvements to GizzyBus

Improvements to GizzyBus

GizzyBuses will be driving improved commuter routes and timetables around the city from Monday 4 April.

The new routes include stops to Valley Road, James and Winter Streets, and include further stops on Tyndall Road and Lawrence Street.

The bus service to Te Hapara will also now drive along Herbert Road instead of Wi Pere Street on its journey back to the Bright Street terminal in the city.

Timings of the buses have also been improved.

"Feedback we've received said users had to wait up to 2 hours for a bus at Gisborne Hospital, the improved timings means there will now be a bus to the city stopping hourly at the hospital," says Journey Manager for Tairawihti Roads, Helen Harris.

"Bus users heading to Kaiti will also be able to get on and off the bus outside Pak n Save."

The changes were approved last month after feedback from the community and bus user surveys completed in 2013 and 2015.

New timetables and maps are available from GizzyBus drivers, from Council’s website and Fitzherbert Street office startingMonday 4 April. New timetables signs for bus shelters will also be installed starting next week.

Passengers on WakaKura and GizzyBus’s from the Huxley Road area will have seating and cover from the weather while waiting for a bus this winter.

Construction for a new bus shelter to be installed at Huxley Road is underway.

A new 4.9m x 1.4m shelter, with a reinforced front, is being built between the footpath and kerb on the corner of Huxley Road and Cavendish Crescent.

Journey Manager for Tairawhiti Roads Helen Harris says Huxley Road is one of the busiest bus stops, serving both school and commuter routes to the city.

“Nearly 70 people use the bus stop every weekday.”

The new shelter will cost $8,880 and is part of planned upgrades in Council’s Regional Public Transport Plan.

New shelters and improvements to bus services are a part of the Regional Public Transport Plan for Tairawhiti.
