This afternoon
the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Te
Poi near Matamata where a camper van burst into flames while
travelling along the road.
The driver of the camper van,
a 72 year old Opotiki man received serious burns to more
than 50% of his body, rescuers took the badly injured man to
a nearby farm house and submerged him in a bath of cold
water.
Police, Fire and St John attended the scene. He was
airlifted to Waikato hospital in a critical condition.
