Thames 17 April 16 - Weather Update

17 April 16 - Weather Update 01

MetService severe issued a severe weather watch for the Coromandel today, with localised downpours and thunderstorms possible, especially in the east until midnight Sunday.

Heavy rain has fallen in the northern parts of the Coromandel causing slips and severe flooding Colville north. Heavy rain continues to fall, and although the tide is on the way out, the roads remain impassible in some areas.

Here's what we know:

Ohinewai ford (between Port Jackson and Fletcher Bay) has been damaged and is impassible to all vehicles, including 4wd.
Slips have blocked the intersection of Port Charles and Waikawau Bay and all three roads are impassible (Port Charles, Waikawau Bay and Colville)
Colville is blocked by flooding north and south of Colville
If you had plans to travel north of Coromandel town today, we ask that you postpone your trip to avoid getting caught out by flooding and slips.
