Check your route before travelling

Check your route before travelling to your holiday destination

After the severe weather experienced on the Coromandel Sunday afternoon and early Mondaymorning, many of the roads to popular holiday destinations may have been affected.

To avoid disappointment we recommend that you check your route before setting out.

Following a major slip on Whangapoua Hill, between Coromandel and Te Rerenga on SH25, the road is now open in both directions. Traffic control and speed restrictions are in place and we recommend taking extra care when travelling this route.

There is a drop-out on the 309 Road, which has been coned. The rest of the road is down to one lane in places, but is open.

Kennedy Bay Road is closed on the Coromandel side of the hill, to get to Kennedy bay detour through Colville and Waikawau Bay. The Waikawau Beach Road / Tuateawa route is open, but is one way in places and caution is required.

Colville Road is open, to one lane in places due to slips and debris. Care is required driving this route.

Port Charles is open, one lane in places, as far as Adlor Hill Road due to a large slip which is cutting off access to Sandy Bay and Stony Bay. The bridge at the Port Charles fire station is being repaired this morning to allow access by heavy vehicles; this will enable work to begin on the slip.

The Tapu-Coroglen Road and the Port Jackson Road are both open.
