Roading update 20/4/15 - What's closed due to slips

Roading update - What's closed due to slips.

Following the weather event last weekend here's an update on roads around the Coromandel.

Port Charles Road: The road is closed 500m short of Big Sandy Bay and will remain closed while a large slip is removed from the road over the next two to three days. Public access past the slip site will be made available from 5pm in the afternoon until 7:30 am in the morning and again from 1pm until 1:30pm.

Port Charles Road: At the fire station bridge will be closed from 10am-1pm Wednesday the 20th of April while repairs are made to the bridge approaches.

Kennedy Bay Road - A slip that has closed Kennedy Bay road (approx. 2km from Coromandel Town) as there is insufficient road width remaining to allow for the safe passage of any vehicles. This site has been assessed by a geotechnical engineer and it has been recommended that the road remain closed while further site investigation works are being completed. It is expected that this road closure may be in place longer term as repair options at the site are limited due to the steep topography and questionable ground stability. Investigation work is continuing to assess site conditions and we expect to have more information on possible options by Friday the 29th of April, at which time we will confirm timelines for re-opening of the road. Alternate access to Kennedy Bay, Tuateawa, Little Bay and Waikawau Beach is available via Colville Road and Port Charles Road.

All other roads are open.
