Lake nutrient rules submission period closing soon

The submission period for the proposed Lake Rotorua Nutrient Management rules will close this Wednesday and Bay of Plenty Regional Council Chair Doug Leeder is encouraging the public to have their input in to what the rules will look like.

“We have undertaken extensive engagement with the community over the past two and a half years resulting in over 200 people providing feedback that helped shape the current proposed rules.

As we have now entered the process required under the Resource Management Act, formal submissions received will help inform any further changes that may be required, and people have until next Wednesday to get their submissions in”, says Leeder.

The Lake Rotorua Nutrient Management rules are a proposed plan change to the Regional Water and Land Plan that was notified Monday 29th February. The rules are one of four components of the integrated framework delivered by the Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes Programme (RTALP) aimed at protecting the water quality in Lake Rotorua.

Last month Regional Council extended the submission period out toWednesday 27th April 2016, 4pm to allow more time for landowners, iwi and all interested stakeholders to make a submission.

“To date we have received five submissions and there is still time for you to provide your input. Whether you agree or disagree, in whole or in part, we want to hear from you as this is an important step towards protecting water quality for Lake Rotorua”.

Submission forms are available at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council offices or can be downloaded from the Regional Council website, www.boprc.govt.nz
