ANZAC Day services, rubbish times

ANZAC Day kerbside collection and refuse transfer station hours

There is no kerbside rubbish and recycling collection on ANZAC Day - Monday 25 April - and collections for the rest of the week are a day later than they would normally be. All our refuse transfer stations (RTSs) are open on ANZAC Day from 1pm and close at 7:30pm, except Thames which will close at 5pm. You can drop off your rubbish in pre-paid blue Council bags and your recycling at our refuse transfer stations for FREE.

On Saturday and Sunday our refuse transfer stations are open as normal. For RTS locations see our web page www.tcdc.govt.nz/rts
If your kerbside collection is normally on a Monday, your blue rubbish bags, recycling wheelie bin and crate for glass will be picked up on Tuesday.

To see which day of the week your rubbish would normally be collected, check the sticker on your wheelie bin. The week following ANZAC Day is WEEK 1 of our fortnightly recycling collection.

The sticker on your wheelie bin will show the number 1 or 2 next to your collection day to tell you which week to put our your wheelie bin and crate for glass. See www.tcdc.govt.nz/kerbside for the full schedule for your area.

You are invited to attend Thames-Coromandel ANZAC Parades and Memorial Services on Monday 25 April 2016.

There are parades and services in most communities around the Coromandel. For the full list see our web page: www.tcdc.govt.nz/anzac2016

WWI Memorial Forest

We're launching stage 2 of our World War One Memorial Forest project.

The Memorial Forest so far consists of seven sites around the Coromandel Peninsula representing different battles and campaign of the Great War that New Zealand troops fought in. The sites pay tribute to the men who paid the ultimate price in the conflict.

So far we have planted about 3,000 trees and this year's stage 2 will see 5,000 more trees planted and an eighth side added.

If you wish to make a long-lasting contribution to the Memorial Forest, you can do so by donating the cost of a tree: $25.

And, you can dedicate the tree to one of the 18,166 New Zealanders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war. Our Memorial Forest project web page - www.tcdc.govt.nz/ww1memorialforest - has all the details. The tree's GPS location will be recorded and you will be issued with a memorial certificate bearing the soldier's name and the tree's location.

Roads update after last Sunday's big rain

Port Charles Road - Now open

Kennedy Bay Road - Closed. A slip has closed Kennedy Bay road (approx. 2km from Coromandel Town) as there is insufficient road width remaining to allow for the safe passage of any vehicles. This site has been assessed by a geotechnical engineer and it has been recommended that the road remain closed while further site investigation works are being completed. It is expected that this road closure may be in place longer term as repair options at the site are limited due to the steep topography and questionable ground stability. Investigation work is continuing to assess site conditions and we expect to have more information on possible options by Friday 29 April, at which time we will confirm timelines for re-opening of the road. Alternate access to Kennedy Bay, Tuateawa, Little Bay and Waikawau Beach is available via Colville Road and Port Charles Road.

All other roads - Open.
