"Truck Crash - SH1, North Canterbury - Canterbury"

At approximately 6.40am on Saturday 23rd April 2016 a 44 tonne truck and trailer unit has collided with a cow near Glen Colwyn, about 30 km north of Cheviot on State Highway One. A second truck with 4 occupants that was following has struck the first vehicle trapping them inside. Three of them were uninjured but one female was transported by helicopter to Christchurch hospital with leg injuries. Due to its injuries the cow had to be humanely put down at the scene. The road has been cleared and is open to all traffic.
