"Serious Crash - Kawakawa - Northland"

Police and emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash just north of Kawakawa.

The crash occurred at 11.56a.m.

on the second of the "Three bridges".

Initial reports were of two northbound motorcycles colliding with a southbound car.

Updates indicate that both motorcyclists received injuries; one critical, one moderate.

A landing site is being prepared for the injured to be helicoptered from the scene.

Diversions are bing arranged and will require all motorists to travel through Paihiaf on state highways 10 and 11.

Police at the scene are aware that this will have a significant impact on travel times and will result in congestion on the alternative route.

All efforts are being made to quickly clear the scene.

In the interim motorists are advised to delay travel where possible and to take extra care and be patient on the lenghty diversion.
