Kennedy Road update #2

Kennedy Road update #2

Our contractors are making good progress and at this stage opening the road to single lane remains on track for completion by Sunday.

"Unfortunately our contractors are suffering from gear being interfered with outside of work hours when they are not onsite," says Infrastructure Manager, Bruce Hinson. "They have had a number of batteries stolen from their machinery onsite. Our contractors have also received verbal threats of further tampering with their machinery."

"As a result the contractor has to remove some machinery at days end and re-establish each morning to avoid further delays associated with machinery damage, which is less than ideal, especially with the pressure on them to open the road to a single lane this week," says Mr Hinson.

The site was surveyed last week and options for the full repairs will be worked through over the coming weeks. A preferred long-term solution is unlikely to be completed for a number of months but in the meantime we’re working as fast as we can to open the road to at least one lane access by the end of the week.

We would like to thank the Kennedy Bay and Tuateawa communities affected by this road closure for their patience while we restore Kennedy Bay Road access.

Please feel free to share this update with your community. To add yourself or someone else to the list to receive updates on the Kennedy Bay Road, email the contact details to Rebekah Duffin.
