$13,000 awarded in overdue rates case

The Auckland District Court has today awarded $13,249.20 as a contribution towards Auckland Council’s costs incurred while recouping unpaid rates from Kingsland resident Penny Bright.

Ms Bright owes $34,182.56 in rates, as of 30 June 2015. The amount of the costs awarded is in addition to the rates owed, which backdate to 2007.

Earlier this year, the District Court ruled Ms Bright must pay the rates owed to the council. If Ms Bright does not repay her rates, her house may be subject to a ratings sale in the Auckland High Court.
