Earlier message: Police are at Lake Road, Rotorua after a man was seen jumping in the lake off the wharf about 11 pm tonight.
The man was last seen swimming towards Mokoia Island.
Police have fears for his safety. Coastguard have been called and police are checking the area.
Update 0040 hrs - The man was located by Coastguard at 0025 am in shoulder deep water.
He is now being treated by ambulance for hypothermia.
