Vehicle crash - SH26 Morrinsville

Incident State Highway 26 Morrinsville. Police advise that they are currently in attendance at State Highway 26 Morrinsville in relation to an incident which was initiated by a motorcycle which left the road and crashed into a ditch. One of the riders on the motorcycle sustained moderate to serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

A second person from the motorcycle has then approached a nearby dwelling where upon the offender has entered the house, stolen a set of car keys and then unlawfully taken the residents motor vehicle. The stolen car was pursued by Police for a short time before the pursuit was abandoned due to the driver's behaviour.

A short time later the vehicle crashed.

The driver has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries. CIB and the Serious Crash Unit are investigating the incident. Police advise that diversions are currently in place for westbound traffic at SH26 and Roache, and for East bound traffic diversions are in place at Seales and SH26.

Diversions are not expected to be in place for longer than the next 30 minutes. There is no further information available at this time.
